Khongoryn Els, Mongolia
The Khongoryn Els, also known as the "Singing Dunes," are the largest and most extensive sand dunes in Mongolia, extending from the foot of the Altai Mountains into the northern Gobi Desert. A small river, fed from subterranean runoff from the mountains, runs along portions of its northern flank, leaving green pastures for camels, horses, and other livestock to enjoy.
